Super Friends: An Interactive 80s Duel

More than a game, this is a digital time machine. An interactive souvenir designed to transport you straight back to the 1980s, when happiness fit into a deck of cards and Superman’s power was measured in pounds-force. Prepare your strategy, trust your instincts, and may the mightiest hero win.

Quick instructions: There are two decks: the left one is yours, the right one is yours, or the bottom one (if you’re playing on a mobile device, it’s your computer’s). You must choose a value to face your opponent; press “next” after each confrontation.

How to play

The goal is simple and straightforward, just like on the playground: win all of your opponent’s cards! The rules are based on the classic card game “War,” which focuses on comparing statistics.

  1. The Auto Deal: At the start, the entire deck of heroes and villains is randomly dealt between you and your opponent.
  2. Your turn: The top card of your deck is revealed. Analyze its stats: Height, Weight, Strength, Battles Won, and Speed.
  3. Choose your stat: This is key. You must select the attribute you consider superior to your opponent’s hidden card. Do you think Superman’s Strength is invincible? Or that The Flash’s Speed is unmatched? Click your choice!
  4. The Final Showdown: Your opponent’s card is turned over, and the values of your chosen stat are compared.
  5. Winner Takes All:
  6. If your value is higher: You win the round! You take your opponent’s card, and both are placed at the bottom of your deck.
  7. If your value is lower: Your opponent wins the round and takes your card.
  8. In the event of a tie: The cards go into the pot! They are kept in the game, and the winner of the next round keeps the cards in play and the entire accumulated pot.
  9. Final victory: The game ends when one player has won all the cards in the deck.

A treasure from the 80s: Cromy’s letters

For anyone who grew up in South America, especially in Argentina and Uruguay, during the 1980s, the word Cromy is synonymous with childhood. This Argentine company was the undisputed king of collecting, creating sticker albums and playing card decks that became a cultural phenomenon.

The “Super Friends” cards were undoubtedly one of his most legendary creations.

  • The art: With vibrant illustrations based directly on the popular Hanna-Barbera animated series, each card was a small work of pop art. Seeing Batman, Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor, or Brainiac in that classic style is a direct hit of nostalgia.
  • The stats: The game’s genius lay in quantifying the impossible. Cromy assigned numerical values to each character’s “Strength,” “Speed,” or “Intelligence,” sparking endless school debates about whether Darkseid was really stronger than Superman.
  • A social phenomenon: These cards served more than just play purposes. They were collectibles, a form of currency, and the center of children’s social lives. They were traded, wagered in games, and treasured. Owning a rare card or one of your favorite hero was a status symbol.

This simulator pays homage to those little pieces of cardboard that gave us countless hours of fun and forged our passion for superheroes.

Relive the magic of recess and game day with this nostalgic simulator of the iconic “Super Friends” collectible cards.

Now, stop reminiscing and start playing! Let the duel begin!
